The leading economic index for the U.S. rose 0.6% in July to 96.0, the Conference Board said Thursday. That was slightly above the 0.5% increase expected by economists surveyed by MarketWatch. The improvement in the LEI, and pick up in the six-month growth rate, suggest better economic and job growth in the second half of 2013, said Ken Goldstein, economist at the board.
